What is it like to live in Middlesex?
Middlesex is a great place for those who feel the pull of London, but don’t want to spend the extra money to live within the zones serviced by the underground. It has a university – Middlesex University London, that attracts a young student crowd resulting in a vibrant rental market.
Mostly suburban, this is a county that has busy towns like Enfield, Ruislip, and Uxbridge within it, all with excellent schools, shopping and thriving business centres. Smaller villages with a calmer pace of life can be found on the very outskirts of the county, such as Halstead and Golcar in the Colne Valley.

For the best connections to London, Hayes offers trains into Paddington in just 20 minutes. You’re also within easy reach of the M40 and M25 here, plus Heathrow airport. Swakeleys school in Hayes achieved an outstanding Ofsted report, although other primary and secondaries achieved good ratings too. Many Victorian and Edwardian terraces are in the older parts of the town, with affordable rents too.
Ashford is essentially part of Surrey and one of the greener parts of the county. Parks and golf clubs as well as country pubs and space to explore is perfect for families. Sailing, windsurfing and racing attract tourists year-round to the Queen Mary reservoir. Modern homes as well as some period properties are available here.
