What is Northamptonshire like to live in?
A good mix of town and country makes Northamptonshire a great place to live. For those looking to move further out, but still travel to work in London, it’s a relatively simple commute from Northampton and Milton Keynes to London Euston, and London Marylebone from Banbury takes just 50 minutes by car. The county is bracketed by the M1 and M40 motorways, giving superb access to the rest of the country.
Natural beauty is never too far, part of the Cotswolds stretches into Northamptonshire bringing idyllic villages and plenty of rolling hills. Larger farmhouse-style properties are available and plenty of cottages.
For families looking to move to the area, there are some great schools in this county, especially in Corby where St Brendan's Catholic Primary is "excellent" and Studfall Junior "good", according to Ofsted. Brooke Weston Secondary is one of the best in the country and "outstandingly successful".
Some of Northamptonshire's property hotspots
Northampton has been invested in recently, meaning improved public transport and plenty of new properties. The town centre provides museums, entertainment, and plenty of restaurants and shops, but you’re also never too far from parks and green spaces. Birmingham is just over an hour’s drive away, while Nottingham can be reached in 90 minutes.
For those looking for quirky homes with tonnes of character, head to any of the pretty villages dotted liberally across this county. Creaton in Daventry is tiny but stunning, while Badby sprawls over more than 2,000 acres of countryside.
For something in the middle, the market town of Rushden is the fifth largest of its kind in the county, offering large family homes and period properties, as well as some modern apartment blocks closer the centre of town.
