About Strood
Medway is home to the historic Chatham Dockyard and Rochester Castle. It has several Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) such as Lodge Hill and the Medway estuary and marshes, and is only a short 38-minute train journey to central London, for those that want the city buzz. The Rochester and Medway area is rich in seafaring history, and Rochester itself was a favourite of Charles Dickens, who based many of his novels in the area.
The town’s cobbled streets, historic buildings and ancient cathedral are certainly evocative of another time, but cool boutiques and galleries are also dotted around the town. With a population above 270,000, Medway is well served with 97 schools which cater to the family-friendly area.
There is also a number of marinas, yacht clubs and sailing clubs to keep the community entertained. The Medway towns are Rochester, Gillingham, Chatham, Strood and Rainham. The A2 runs through the towns along with the site of the old Dover to London Roman road. Via the M2 you can be at the coast in no time.
