Externally, it had been completed by the developer, a well-established firm, renowned for its exclusive, premium homes. “It was a very attractive house from the outside and the development was small, with lots of space between each property,” she recalls. “From the plans, we knew it would provide us with lots of internal space. In fact, it was the best house we had seen in Milton Keynes and we wanted it as soon as we saw it.”

The couple have also added a conservatory to their home; this now adjoins the drawing room and has French windows on to the garden. “We use the conservatory as a dining room,” she explains. “We have had some wonderful family Christmases here, with up to 15 of us round the table – four generations, ranging in age from three to 91!”

At various times, the dining room has been arranged as a playroom and study. “This is a house that can cater for people of all ages,” she says. “It has been a great family home, with versatile accommodation. The children were aged just one and three when we moved here – now they are at university.” The property has also been magnificent for welcoming friends and hosting large celebrations. With generous rooms, there is always ample space for guests to spread out.

The beauty of life in Shenley Church End is also proximity to Shenley Wood. This is one of three ancient woodlands in Milton Keynes and is a wonderful spot to explore and see the wildlife. In the summer months, the meadow area on the west side is mown so visitors can enjoy picnics and relax among the wildflowers. There are many other local attractions within easy driving distance, including golf courses at Abbey Hill and Aspley Guise. Travelling further afield is also easy as the M1 motorway is just 10 minutes from the house. “It is convenient here yet Shenley Church End itself is also lovely because it also has a village shop, Post Office, supermarket and couple of restaurants, as well as outstanding schools within walking distance,” she adds. “I think the village feel is what I will miss most when we leave.”
SETTING THE SCENE
The house on Willets Rise is set back from the road with a sweeping drive, offering ample off-road parking. There is also a garage. To the front of the house there are five flowering cherry trees. To the rear, the south-facing garden has also matured nicely, presenting an immaculate lawn and ample space for outdoor living.
