Living in Benfleet
The wonderful small town of Benfleet is located 30 miles east of London and just 10 miles west of Southend-on-Sea. Benfleet boasts a rich and vibrant history, which got its name in the 5th century when the area was mostly marshland and was subsequently coined ‘Beamfleote’, meaning ‘tree stream’; the current spelling was adopted when the railway station was built. Benfleet offers terrific access to London, making it an area well sought after by commuters.

Benfleet is best known for Hadleigh Castle and Country Park, an idyllic open space that offers something for everyone.
Benfleet is situated within the borough of Castle Point.
Benfleet’s top attraction is Hadleigh Castle and Country Park, which has picturesque countryside, fantastic views and offers one of the UK’s top mountain biking courses. It’s also a great place for picnics and wildlife watching. The town itself has plenty of amenities for locals, including several supermarkets, pubs and takeaways, and a cinema.
Benfleet is served by the London, Tilbury and Southend railway line, offering access to neighbouring areas like Basildon, Southend, Grays and then into east London. Road travellers can use the nearby A13 road, which connects eastwards to Grays, Dagenham, Barking and central London.
Sports and leisure facilities
Runnymeade Swimming Pool is great for swimmers. Benfleet also boasts Castle Point and Boyce Hill Golf Courses as well as Hadleigh Castle and Country Park, great for biking, running and walking.
