Area Guide: Bar Hill



Bar Hill is a vibrant village in south Cambridgeshire, originally built in the 1960’s on farmland. With its close proximity to the booming and cultural city of Cambridge, as well as its access to the M11, A1 and A14 roads, Bar Hill is a perfect area to live for commuters.

In terms of transport options, there’s a regular bus service into Cambridge and the A14, M11 and A1 roads are accessible also. Bar Hill’s closest train station is in Cambridge, offering services to London Liverpool Street, London Kings Cross, Stansted Airport, Birmingham and Ipswich. There’s also a guided busway at Longstanton, which offers connections to nearby areas such as St Ives and Huntingdon.

Avid shoppers can visit make use of the promenade of shops, as well as the large Tesco Express for the regular food shop. Bar Hill also boasts a strong sense of community; there are many local clubs to become a part of, including the Menzie Golf Club, Sports & Social Club, and the Cricket Club.

If you want something more, Cambridge city centre is close by, which offers a plethora of things to see and do, including museums, greenery and shopping – you could even go for a punt on the River Cam!

Fitness enthusiasts will be pleased to know that there are plenty of areas/facilities for keeping fit; including two fields and a leisure club and spa that has its own 18-hole golf course, indoor swimming pool, two tennis courts and a gym. Cyclists can make use of Bar Hill’s designated cycle path into Dry Drayton village.
