Detached family home close to station
Tucked away on the Essex-Cambridgeshire border, Great Chesterford is the kind of picture-postcard village where deep history meets a warm, bustling community. It is a truly special place to live, with roots that trace all the way back to Roman times. Mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book as a royal manor, it later became a busy 17th-century coaching stop where King Charles I famously stayed on his way to the Newmarket Races. Today, that rich past lives on beautifully through the village's striking timber-framed cottages and the stunning 13th-century All Saints Church. What makes Great Chesterford so wonderful for modern life is just how much it has to offer right on your doorstep. Families will love the village's highly regarded Primary Academy, a lovely, community-focused school right in the heart of the village. For your morning coffee and fresh bread, the historic Days Bakery & Food Hall is a local favourite. There is also a vibrant community centre complete with excellent tennis courts, and two fantastic local pubs to choose from: The Crown & Thistle, famous for its authentic Thai dishes and stone-baked pizzas, and The Plough, which boasts a brilliant garden for sunny afternoons. It is a village that instantly feels like home, perfectly balancing countryside charm with everything you need for easy, everyday living.
The mainline station also offers services to Cambridge North and London Liverpool Street.

About Saffron Walden
Saffron Walden is a picturesque, medieval town, in north-west Essex, just 15 miles south of Cambridge. It has a rich heritage of old buildings reflecting its wealth as a rural market town. A market has been held here since 1141, and market days are now Tuesdays and Saturdays. Famous chefs frequently visit the markets to buy fresh local produce.
The attractive Common is the oldest of Saffron Walden’s open spaces and is a delightful green space. It’s close to the town centre, ideal for picnics, gatherings and simply enjoying the sunshine during warmer months.
Bridge End Garden is a stunning space and environment with natural charm on the north side of the town. Ongoing restoration have harked back to techniques and designs typical of the era of Queen Victoria, bringing the popular garden back to its former glory.
There are many independent shops and eateries to choose from, many of which are part of the Saffron Walden BID. Many small business premises are located in the Rows, which were the town’s ‘original’ shopping centre during medieval times.
