Biggin Hill

Biggin Hill is in the London Borough of Bromley, in South East London. Until 1835 it was an area of farms and scattered cottages. Biggin Hill gradually grew in size; and there was further development in the 1960’s when suburbanisation was popular. Biggin Hills' RAF Heritage

In 1918 the Royal Air Force built an aerodrome on the high ground in Biggin Hill. RAF Biggin Hill was the home airbase of the first aircraft to take part in air to ground radio communications, and of the first British aircraft to shoot down a German aircraft in World War II. It was a crucial RAF Sector airfield during the Battle of Britain. It is now London Biggin Hill Airport; air shows are a regular feature there
