Doncaster

Doncaster is located in South Yorkshire at one of the crossroads of the North of England with communication and travel networks offering easy access to the area. The UK's railway system directly connects London with Edinburgh via Doncaster, the North to South A1/M1 and East to West M62 motorways and the proposed new airport ensure that it is as conveniently accessible as any city in the North of England. Located to the South East of the town is Robin Hood Airport, an international airport handling over one million passengers annually.

Doncaster Locality

Doncaster is the site of the Roman camp of Danum on an ancient highway and was home to the Roman Crispinium horse garrison. From around the 16th century, Doncaster embraced the wealthy stagecoach trade. This led to horse breeding in Doncaster, which in turn led to the start of horseraces there. The St. Leger Stakes remains the world's oldest classic horserace and features in the horseracing calendar as the 5th and final Classic of the British flat racing season.
