‘Stort’ was probably a family or clan in the area in Saxon times and the ‘Bishop’ in the town’s name comes from the 10th century when its castle was sold to the Bishop of London. Property for sale in Bishops Stortford is popular with the financial workers of London who have made it their home and commute daily to London, it takes just 50 minutes by rail. Some house sales will be in the affluent areas where the bankers live, such as the Victorian Town Houses in the centre or Grade II listed buildings in the outlying villages but there are more affordable properties to be found, flats in purpose built blocks, 1930’s properties and semi detached and detached modern houses
The Bishops Stortford office is located in Bridge Street, adjacent to Jackson Square and opposite the approach road into Waitrose car park in the heart of the town centre. The main line station (Cambridge to Liverpool Street line) is a five minute walk away and parking is available in the Pay and Display next to Waitrose, or in Jackson Square car park
