History of Somerset County Cricket Club

Somerset County Cricket Club was originally started in 1875 after a match at Sidmouth, Devon between Somerset and Devon in which the visitors won. They took their matches to all different grounds around Somerset. When they played in Taunton they chose the best school in the region at the time which was Fullands School as their venue. In 1881 a sports centre in Priory Fields opened which soon became home for the County Club. Somerset then played their first home game in 1882 and in the same year had a visit from the Australians. With many ups and downs they won the second class championship in 1890 and then went on to win the first class championship the year later. It wasn't until the 1970's and 1980's that they won their first trophies. It was in 2001 that they finally won the Cheltenham and Gloucester trophy then a few years later went on to win the Twenty20 Cup.

One of the advantages of living at Pegasus Court is that you have the luxury of receiving complimentary membership to the Somerset Country Cricket Club.
